Overview:
A eunuch stricken by a curse comes begging for aid. Meanwhile, the rear palace buzzes with excitement as everyone prepares for the upcoming garden party, and Gyokuyou’s ladies-in-waiting aren’t about to let Maomao get away without dressing her up.
Our Take:
Maomao is, in my opinion, equal parts genius and idiot. She knows all about different ailments, poisons, and all sorts of problems that most ordinary people consider a “curse”. But on the other hand, she only knows about a lot of that by putting herself in immense danger. She lets venomous snakes bite her to test her antidotes, as well as trying so many poisons she’s built up an immunity. I suppose genius and idiot are two sides of the same coin in some respects.
I think this episode was the first hint of a romance between Maomao and Jinshi. Sure he’s been shown to have a soft spot for Maomao but nothing that would lead you to believe he was romantically interested in her. But when Gyokuyou’s ladies-in-waiting dress her up and he gets to see her you could tell it shook him a little bit. Yes, he’s a eunuch but unless this is your first time watching an anime it wouldn’t be the first time if it’s revealed that he still has his umm… “manhood”.
