Our Take

Family Guy loves its Meg centered episodes if the writers are truly going for shock value, and for the season 22 premiere, it works. Maggie Mull was probably the perfect choice to help lead off this plot because as a woman she can probably relate more to Meg than a room full of guys talking about the Patriots loss this morning. Moreover, I’ve always preferred episodes of Family Guy where we only get an A-plot because it allows the writers to really use more real estate for jokes and set ups.

Case and point, Dr. Hartman, whenever this asshole comes on screen it’s a guaranteed laugh out of me. Longer plots also mean more cutaway gags and the season 22 premiere has a lot of really good ones, pretty much all of them are hysterical, most notably the Papa John and TJ MAXX bits.

Mila Kunis’ recording as “Meg” sounded a bit muffled to start the show, but then the mixing seemed to get better as time went on, but other than that, I thought this was a pretty hilarious way to kick off a new season of Family Guy. The show was by far the funniest of the night and has me hopeful that we’re going to have a season on the up and up.
