English Dub Review: My Happy Marriage “Nightmares and Ominous Shadows”

Overview (Spoilers Below):
Hazuki and Miyo grow closer through their lessons. Worried, Kiyoka tries to get to the bottom of Miyo’s relentless nightmares.

Our Take:
It’s becoming clear that the series is undergoing a new direction for the season’s second half, which involves the supernatural. Last week’s episode showcased that a mysterious group of people unsealed the Grave, unleashing a group of spirits known as the Grotesqueries. The Grotesqueries are vengeful ghosts of the gifted people, making them as dangerous as when they were alive. So not only does Kiyoka have to prevent these poltergeists from leaving the forest, but he also investigates his fiancé’s recent nightmares.
But, of course, there’s also the matter of Miyo training to become a proper lady for Kiyoka with the help of Hazuki. Amid the troubles Kiyoka is dealing with, the episode portrays the two ladies bonding during training, which is enough to bring a good amount of charm to its plot. As for Kiyoka’s perspective, it has a supernatural mystery vibe to the scenario in which Kiyoka further investigates the Usaba family’s origins, along with taming the Grotesqueries. We know that the Usabas, including Miyo’s mother, can read minds, which might be connected to Miyo’s recurring nightmares. However, there’s also the Grotesqueries haunting her dreams, which could be another source of her recent issues.
Overall, the episode offers more questions to resolve as we delve deeper into Miyo’s past and the show’s newest threat. However, it also provides an enjoyably heartfelt bond between the potential sisters-in-law amid this confrontation. I don’t think it’ll top the emotional depth of the first half regarding its narrative. However, the second half intrigued me enough to see where it’ll head next, especially when Arata arrives at the scene.
