English Dub Review: Farming Life in Another World “The Merchant and the Dragon”

Overview (Spoilers Below): Hiraku’s offhand comment leads to a series of events that end with a merchant setting up a trade deal with The Great Tree Village.

Our Take: To no one’s surprise, the Great Tree Village is adding another food to their list in this week’s episode. Following an incident involving a red slime drinking their wine, Hiraku and the village people decided to get fish to make seafood. Flowrem and Lasty visited a merchant named Michael Goroum to trade for fish, resulting in him becoming Hiraku’s purveyor to manage all trades between the village and the outside world. While Michael is shown to be a trustworthy companion to Hiraku’s crew, he also tends to be easily terrified, as shown in the episode’s hilarious flashback, the saving grace of its repetitive narrative. Let’s hope this issue doesn’t interfere with the village’s process for Hiraku’s sake. Afterward, another dragon moves into the village, but not without a misunderstanding that almost destroys the town. The dragon that challenges Hiraku is actually Dryme’s immature older sister, Hakuren, whose jealousy makes her believe that Lasty and Hiraku are engaged. After several occasions involving Hakuren, including a humiliating game of strip-Mahjong, the dragon woman moves into the village as a schoolteacher, resulting in General Randan forwarding his resignation letter. The episode also has Hiraku rescuing the Lamia ladies from the Inferno puppies and having them trade dungeon treasure for crops. But, of course, they must wear bras to cover their exposed boobs while in public. It eventually forms into a delivery service for the trading villages, including the Great Tree Village, making trading a breeze for the townsfolk. But, of course, the continuous process will soon be interrupted again by yet another misunderstanding in the form of Demon Lord Galgardo’s rebellious teenage daughter, Yuri. Yuri believes that Flowrem is being held prisoner by Hiraku and plans to attack the town. Considering that we’re close to the end of the season, it’s fitting that we’re getting another misunderstood enemy targeting Hiraku’s farming paradise. I wonder how the mayor is going to clear this one up before his village is destroyed.
