English Dub Review: Masamune-kun’s Revenge R “So We Became a Couple”

Overview:

Masamune interrupts Aki and Kanetsugu’s date by saying he’s the Masamune Aki had met 8 years ago and ends up asking her out. Surprisingly, Aki ends up saying yes and the two formally become a couple, but Masamune can’t help but feel conflicted…

Our Take:

The stuff we have going on at this point in the show are things that are usually reserved for the end of the series but this is only episode five! Aki and Masamune are officially a couple and I’m looking forward to seeing them actually being a couple. In most anime once the main characters become a couple that is usually the end of the series, for a romance anime at least. So I’m excited to see where they go from here.

Now that they’re a couple a lot of girls started to ask Masamune out and isn’t that how things usually go? No one wants you till you’re off the market, granted a lot of them were asking him just to see if the rumors about him and Aki were true.

I feel like Kanetsugu being a girl is just kind of glossed over. It should have been a bigger deal but gender reveals like that is nothing new in anime. She even took a pass at Masamune since his family is rich too so it works, which with the type of anime this is I’m a bit surprised wasn’t the original plan. There is some tension in the air and just like Masamune, it’s hard to tell why. For me, it’s because this is only the fifth episode so SOMETHING has to happen but it feels like that’s cheating.
