English Dub Review: Farming Life in Another World “This Is a Village”

Overview (Spoilers Below):
A surprise attack would have shattered their peaceful lives were it not for the almighty farming tool. As word spreads, their home blooms into a village.

Our Take:
It looked like the series was starting to pick up, thanks to the wyvern’s appearance in the previous episode. However, this minor confrontation didn’t last as long as we hoped, mainly to maintain the show’s small-scale and tranquil tone. To compensate for it, though, this episode offers more development in its plot regarding Hiraku’s profound power and the farm itself.
First, Hiraku’s Almighty Farming Tool can transform into a magical spear, which he uses to kill the invading wyvern. But it’s not just any old magic spear. It’s a replica of Gryme, the God Spear, given by God himself, along with a supernaturally healthy body. Sadly, despite God’s generosity toward the unlucky human, He gets punished by His daughter, the Goddess of Agriculture.
Afterward, we have an unsurprisingly delightful sequence involving the characters harvesting and stomping grapes to make wine. The girls did struggle at first, but thanks to the elven clan’s catchy traditional song, they managed to find their groove. So expect them to get occasionally drunk while expanding their farm.
Finally, we have yet another scenario featuring Hiraku recruiting even more people to help him with the farm. One of them is Ru’s vampiric sister Flora, who’s also a researcher. Flora agrees to live with Hiraku and the girls on account of being fascinated by Hiraku fermenting microorganisms to make wine, miso, and tofu. Of course, that resulted in Flora bringing in cows and plenty of ogre maids along for the farming experience. This led to Tia inviting three more angels and a group of lizard people to help and the appearance of thirty more elven girls.
That amount of people resulted in the farm becoming a village, which Hiraku renamed the Great Tree Village. After becoming a powerful farmer for the past five episodes, Hiraku is now set to tackle his next challenge: being the village mayor. But, of course, there are also the Demon King’s generals and the Dragon King, Dryme, to worry about as we’re nearing the second half of this relaxing yet narratively repetitive isekai series.
