Review: Mike Judge’s Beavis and Butt-Head “Sad Boys/Are You There God? Its Me, Beavis”

Overview

“Sad Boys/Are You There God? Its Me, Beavis”

After they see the attention an angsty emo kid gets from the ladies, Beavis and Butt-Head pretend to be sad and end up in a psychiatric hospital. Beavis notices his body is starting to go through changes after he is bitten by a rabid skunk.

Our Take

The last several episodes not dealing with middle-aged Beavis and Butt-Head has had an increased fascination with religion and I’m not sure if that was on purpose or not but it’s a fascinating beat to keep an eye on. That said, anytime Beavis goes nuts whether its doing his Cornholio bit, going rabid, or even zapping his nads, it’s usually following some sort of side-splitting laughs that never seem to get old for me.

“Sad Boys” was typical Beavis and Butt-Head, doing stupid shit to get attention from women, but “Are You There God, It’s Me Beavis” had a different sensibility that just hit different. The clip of “Help I’m In A Secret Relationship” was a bit funnier than the music video, and in fact, one of my favorite bits from when Mike Judge’s Beavis and Butt-Head returned to MTV in 2011 was the constant roasting of MTV series like Jersey Show and I’m 16 and Pregnant. Hopefully, we can get more of that in the future because a bunch of these hip hop songs really just blend altogether for me and end up getting similar punchlines.

In any event, Mike Judge’s Beavis and Butt-Head have checked in with a solid outing and we’ve got a little more than a month’s worth of more episodes which should make the beginning of summer that much more enjoyable.
