Report: King of the Hill Reboot To “Time Skip”

We reported a few months ago that 95% of the writers from the OG King of the Hill series are NOT expected to return to the writers room for the reboot coming to Hulu sometime in 2024. News also hit late last week that legendary director Tony Kluck, who has a stellar history of directing not only King of the Hill, but also Beavis and Butt-Head and Daria, passed away last week at the age of 75 after a bout from cancer, so that’s one more OG producer that will not be returning to the franchise.

One guy who IS returning, Stephen Root, the longtime voice of both Bill Dauterive and Budd Strickland. In a recent interview with ScreenRant, the actor notes that the cast and crew of the King of the Hill reboot commenced table reads in April 2023 and that a time jump will occur that will focus more-so on Bobby Hill.

It should be noted that King of the Hill co-creator Mike Judge recently rebooted Mike Judge’s Beavis and Butt-Head with a similar time-jump aspect, however, that show is a bit less-grounded and relied on time travel to accomplish this. King of the Hill reboot will instead just move forward in time from when the show last aired which, if you’re counting at home, was thirteen years ago as of May 6th, 2023. HOW much forward Bobby Hill will age remains to be seen.

Synopsis:

Set in Texas, this animated series follows the life of propane salesman Hank Hill, who lives with his substitute-teacher wife Peggy, wannabe comedian son Bobby, and deadbeat niece Luanne. Hank has strikingly stereotypical views about God and country but is unpretentious and sees the world simply.
