Our Take
Mike Judge’s Beavis and Butt-Head returns with a second season on Paramount+ premiering almost 30 years after the show’s original airing on MTV and really this franchise has NOT lost an ounce of its lunacy. This week’s two-part premiere featured a multitude of hilarity with premises that involve stokes on religion, politics, and even a new Tom Anderson-only War Story!
Joining the fray this season among a litany of an already impressive roster of writers solicited for the rebooted series, Jimmy O. Yang and Family Guy’s Artie Johann. Having been a long-time Silicon Valley castmember, it makes sense that Jimmy would re-team with Mike Judge to offer up a ridiculous episode premise that features ridiculous jokes and gags rife for commentary on the modern-day political climate. Artie Johann seems like a no-brainer, Family Guy has done more than a few gags featuring Beavis and Butt-Head, so clearly, Artie’s coming to pay homage to the series.
Tom Anderson episodes are always a hoot, but now we’ve got shorts featuring the popular character and they are already hilarious and I hope we get a bunch more. The cutaways were pretty solid this week as well, but one thing I had an issue with is it seems like the jokes are more savage against home-produced videos than against the featured artists. I’m not sure if that’s MTV jumping in and telling the producers to hold back punches so as not to anger a younger music-loving base that the franchise has lost long ago, but for my money, I want EVERYONE to get hit. Fortunately, I can’t be all mad. Season two of Mike Judge’s Beavis and Butt-Head is here and it’s still a laugh riot.
Do we know if Hulu will be the only entity to have the dub, or if it will be on other platforms, too? The show in general is definitely going to be on multiple platforms.
