Overview Under the guidance of the Curious Cat, team RWBY encounters a talking Teapot merchant and proceeds to gather ingredients of a special “Gro-gurt parfait” to make the other three members normal-sized again. During their search, Ruby comes across a blacksmith who in a nutshell tells what’s in Ruby’s mind about “carrying a large burden”. While this is going on, a flock of jabber walkers attacks the village which turns out to be the handy work of a familiar face…Our Take To further continue the deconstruction of Ruby Rose, the episode opens by telling us about how the world consumes and replaces lost souls and then we see the world isolate the two characters who don’t know their purpose. This is because according to the Curious Cat: “People don’t die in the Ever After, they ascend and are reborn unless they’re humans” which is why the Jabberwalker creatures are such a big deal. And why Neo taking advantage of her newfound powers and having these Jabberwalkers under her thumb is an even scarier aspect to think about because in this drug-trippy world, they’re now stuck in, the inhabitants only know death when they see these creatures. As for the conversation Ruby later has with the Blacksmith. She seems to be carrying a large burden and she’s cracking under the weight even though she says otherwise. But later on, Ruby makes an unthinkable sacrifice giving up more aspects of herself while trying to restore everyone else. Of course, at the same time, this is going on, A familiar face from the Fairy Tale makes an unexpected grand entrance and it’s quick to answer a question I had since the last episode…Overall, it blows my mind that an entire episode of development and questions all immediately took a backseat for one hell of a twist ending that longtime fans saw coming, and yet the reveal still manages to shock in some way! This volume also seems to have put a lot of focus on the idea of a huntress’ weapon being an extension of themselves, and how Ruby feels like “less” because she doesn’t have her weapon. In a proverbial sense, she may need to be reforging, but I guess that remains to be seen…
