English Dub Review: The Fruit of Evolution: Before I Knew It, My Life Had It Made “Seiichi Dies” “The Four Leaders Closing In”

Overview:

Seiichi and Airi are sent to the world of the dead by Demioros’ Deliverance and have to search for the Gate of the Living and overcome its trials in order to return to life.

While the Guild hosts an audition full of perverts to find new members to join them for the alliance summit, Louise makes her way wounded to Seiichi and explains the fate that befell Zakia at the hands of the Great Devil Order.

Our Take:

The best part of these two episodes was the Neon Genesis Evangelion reference in the second episode of the night. The ending to Evangelion has long become a meme at this point but seeing it played out for laughs was hilarious, kind of like the rest of this series. Seiichi’s time in the afterlife was both short-lived and funny. There was a bit of backstory to his and Airi’s past relationship and it feels like someone else is going to be joining the harem soon.

The Great Devil Order seems to have some interesting people in their group, but I don’t really feel any fear of them. I know I should but they just don’t do it for me, not yet at least. Sure they’re powerful but they are also laughable so it creates a bit of an issue for me. Good villains can make or break a series and these ones have a long way to go before they are up to the task I think. But since it is ultimately a comedy series I think this anime is sticking to what it’s good at for the most part.
