English Dub Review: Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury “Guel’s Pride”

Now it’s a victory

Overview:

Suletta and Miorine intend to use the upcoming rematch to kill two birds with one stone; losing is not an option for Guel if he wants to maintain his pride.

Our Take:

The protagonists of the Gundam franchise can have some pretty out there philosophical stances. I think that’s why The Witch from Mercury is so refreshing because Suletta is pretty chill. I mean she’s a nervous wreck half the time but she’s not like a war mongerer, at least not yet. But her idea of “If you run you gain one, but if you move forward you gain two” which essentially means that if you run you don’t have to deal with the problem but if you move forward you gain confidence and experience. I know it’s really simplistic but I like it a lot.

Suletta has been hilarious to watch, when Guel challenges her to a second duel her response is “I’m facing you again? Thank God” and I loved that. But if there’s anything we watch this for it’s the mobile suit fights and I can tell you this definitely delivers on that front. The animation is so good and the mobile suit designs are great. Some of them can get pretty out there but most of these have been pretty good.

I like the school setting and the duels being a bit safer than the wartime settings that is usually here are enjoyable. We are three (technically four) episodes in and I would recommend this for not just mecha fans but almost any type of anime. We got a school setting and possibly some yuri stuff going on so there could be something for anyone here.
