Big City Greens Themed NHL Game To Go Prime-Time For Disney Channel

Being a Boston Bruins fan, and having a team that has a comfortable padding in the Stanley Cup Playoffs standings as we head into the second half of the season, there really is no reason for me to tune into a game between the New York Rangers and the Washington Capitals… until now.

Disney Channel has announced that they are rebroadcasting a game between the two aforementioned Metro Division rivals, but with a bit of a Big City Greens twist. Instead, the game will be animated, and will feature characters from the long-running animated comedy series alongside the “NHL Big City Greens Classic”. Fans who really want to just watch the game, will be able to do so on ESPN and ESPN2, but if you wanna bit of sash thrown in, check out the broadcast happening March 14th @ 7 pm ET/PT, only on Disney Channel/Disney XD.

The change in the game’s aesthetic is in part for the NHL to showcase hockey to a younger audience thereby getting those kids interested in a new sport that, apart from the last several years, rarely gets primetime coverage. Fortunately, these days, the NHL regularly has games on a number of different networks in a number of different time slots, so kids can jump in when the water’s cold! Who knows? Maybe it gets more kids into youth hockey leagues as well!
