“Rick and Morty” Co-Creator Justin Roiland Faces Allegations Of Domestic Abuse ; Faces Seven Years In Prison If Guilty

Justin Roiland was in a pre-trial court hearing today having been charged with felony domestic charges in OC, California. The charges stem from a January 2020 incident which saw Justin and an ex-girlfriend involved in an altercation that wouldn’t be reported until May of the same year. Justin was subsequently arrested, and released in August on a $50,000 bail.  After bail, Justin was arraigned and charged with one felony count of domestic battery with corporal injury and one felony count of false imprisonment by menace, violence, fraud and/or deceit.

Justin has pleaded not guilty in any of the aforementioned charges and another hearing is set for April 27, but apparently there have been a number of hearings over the course of the last couple of years with Justin being on a receiving end of a no-contact offer and on today’s hearing was offered a plea agreement with the decision expected to be made in April.

Justin is the creator of Rick and Morty and is a producer for series like Solar Opposites, Koala Man, and various video games.

Our Take

There’s a lot of chatter on Twitter already, however, I think the Johnny Depp/Amber Heard trial should be an important lesson that, a lot of the time, there are two sides to every story. Justin is maintaining his innocence, so it will be interesting to see how these next few hearings go.
