English Dub Review: Uzaki-chan Wants to Hang Out! “I Kind of Want to Do Things Right Already!”

Overview (Spoilers Below):
Shinichi’s father gives him advice on how to handle his relationship with Hana. After receiving tips from numerous men at the cafe, Shinichi finally realizes that he cares about her and enjoys hanging out with her. Shinichi looks forward to expressing his gratitude to Hana, and they happen to meet. Unfortunately, their meeting gets cut short due to Hana’s unexpected offering.

Our Take:
Christmas is fast approaching, but the problems are still rising for the two friends-turned-potential lovers. Hana is still determined to have Shinichi invite her over for the holidays, while Shinichi has his own family problems to handle. In case you forgot about the previous episode, Shinichi finally visited his parents after being away for two years, only to discover that they have a new addition to the family. Unfortunately, Shinichi’s new baby sister isn’t the main focus of this episode.
Instead, it focuses on Shinichi gathering relationship advice from the guys, including his father, Shiro. Meanwhile, Hana continues to reminisce about her time with Shinichi at high school while drinking with Ami and Sakaki. I still admire the show’s second season for applying the elements that made the previous one a hilarious ride from start to finish. However, I would also credit it for further exploring the characters, mainly Hana and Shinichi.
We’ve seen flashbacks of the two during their high school days throughout the series, especially their time in swimming class. They’re cute little moments that show Hana wasn’t always the same person she is now and why she’s determined to be Shinichi’s friend. This episode is no exception, with Hana telling Ami and Sakaki how Shinichi taught her to swim. It’s another charming sequence that reflects how Hana became comfortable around Shinichi despite his ominous appearance.
But, of course, this is also the episode showcasing Shinichi finally discovering how much Hana means to him. It’s been a long time coming, but we’ve finally reached that point in their potential relationship. Unfortunately, that moment comes and goes in a flash when Hana gives Shinichi an offer in a way that gets her banned from his apartment. So much for a Christmas miracle.
I would be quick to be frustrated that they came so close to making it official before ruining it with their stubbornness. However, I can’t do that when I’m laughing my ass off over their chemistry. “I Kind of Want to Do Things Right Already” delivers another engaging insight into Hana’s friendship with Shinichi via a high school flashback to go along with its series of comical scenarios for the two. Shinichi’s father proves to be another great addition to the cast regarding his relationship with Shinichi, with him getting his butt whooped by his wife being the hilarious part of the episode. It looks like Hana would have to change her attitude in the next episode if she wants to spend Christmas with Shinichi, who’s already back to his stubborn self due to her behavior.
