English Dub Review: The Reincarnation Of The Strongest Exorcist In Another World “Academy City Lodonea”

Overview (Spoilers Below):

Seika grows up and enrolls in a magical academy.

Our Take:

In every series about reincarnating into an ordinary person, there’s bound to be an all-magic academy the main character attends. Unsurprisingly, The Reincarnation Of The Strongest Exorcist keeps this streak going in its second episode, with Seika enrolling at a magical academy after taming the elder newt. I should be surprised that we’re already getting to that point, but after watching the other shows with similar premises, like The Greatest Demon Lord, it’s pretty challenging to do so. However, I did enjoy what the first episode offered, which got me to continue this derivative venture.

The episode takes place immediately after the end of the first episode, with everyone in the family praising Seika for defeating the elder newt. Well, everyone except Kri, who continues to be a douchebag toward Seika. Fortunately, Seika was able to put Kri in his place during a duel with his exorcist voodoo spell. Seika then travels to register at the Lodonea Magic Academy with Efa by her side, where he has already made a rival out of a red-haired girl, who may be the same person from his previous life.

“Academy City Lodonea” further explores Seika’s desire to live an ordinary life without making the same mistake he made as Haruyoshi. Part of his plan involves a pretty sneaky maneuver that convinces his father, Lord Lamprogue, to have him enroll in Lodonea. That’s right, the sudden attack from the elder newt in last week’s episode was not a coincidence. It was revealed in a flashback that Seika summoned the cyclops named Bons to drive out the elder newt from its habitat and into his house to make him look like a hero to his family. This was one of the things that made Seika differentiate from other characters from the different reincarnation fantasy shows, with Seika committing a lie to get into the academy as opposed to Ard Meteor (Greatest Demon Lord) and Ray White (Iceblade Sorcerer Shall Rule the World) enrolling with no issues.

We also get a brief tease from Lord Lomprogue, who remembers retrieving Seika as a baby from a hooded stranger. Additionally, he ponders about Seika’s powers being related to Gilbert, who suddenly went missing long ago. There’s also another tease after the credits where a mysterious monster is targeting Seika. We probably might learn more about these elements in later episodes if the show continues to distract me from its familiar narrative with its characters and fantasy action.
