One Piece Film: Red Nearly Stomps Black Adam’s Third Week In Theatrical Release

Anime films have done really well in 2022 which makes us wonder what the hell Disney do wrong with The Bob’s Burgers Movie. One Piece Film: Red has grossed $9.5 million in its opening week finishing second in its US theatrical debut. In fact, the film actually BEAT Black Adam on its opening day to the tune of $8.4 million. One Piece Film: Red has accrued nearly $172 million worldwide as of today which has already surpassed Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero’s entire theatrical run.

With this film raking in big bucks and the likes of Jujutsu Kaisen 0 getting to $196 million, you would think people in Hollywood would get it in understanding that adult animation in theatrical does very, very well and is continuing to dominate AND be profitable at the same time. Comparatively speaking, Black Adam cost $200 million to make and needs to make $500 million before it starts to earn a profit when you factor in P&A costs, but with Black Panther: Wakanda Forever opening November 11th, it’s looking like Black Adam won’t get there. In the Middle East, Black Adam has already been defeated by the anime.
