Deadline earlier this week reported that the animators at Tooning Out The News have opted for unionization with The Animators Guild. The company that is being asked to recognize the union, Stephen Colbert’s Late Night Cartoons division which is set up at CBS Productions. That said, promotion of the series didn’t take a back seat last night when Colbert’s Late Night With Stephen Colbert featured a guest appearance from one of Tooning Out The News’ leading contributors.

A late-night report from Tooning Out The News’ Tyler Templeton, who joins Stephen for an update on the former president’s legal troubles, and to share a preview of his colleague Kylie Weaver’s interview with Sec. Pete Buttigieg which can be seen on the season premiere of “Tooning Out The News,” airing Wednesday nights on Comedy Central after The Daily Show.

Colbert has been very pro-union in the past, picking up stories featuring the likes of workers from Amazon, Starbucks, and the like, all attempting to unionize, so it will be interesting to see how Late Night Cartoons reacts to recognizing the union. With the show just getting to it’s third season with 13 episodes on the way, the series’ future may actually be in some sort of flux given that lead-in Trevor Noah, host of The Daily Show, has announced that he will be leaving his late night post sometime in the near future. With Comedy Central ingratiating its lineup in largely adult animation, with pickups coming left and right for adult animated comedies, Tooning Out The News could be in a position to replace The Daily Show altogether, however, it would have to prove that it could live on it’s own in a post-Noah world.
