Spindle Toons’ Hazbin Hotel And Helluva Boss Are The Biggest Shows On Youtube…Networks Are You Listening?

I think if someone were to ask me, “John, since Seth MacFarlane, who are the next BIG names in animation producers?”. Right off the bat, Justin Roiland is a big one, with the likes of Rick and Morty, Solar Opposites, and other projects in development, Justin became that dual-threat big-name that has the potential to reach Seth status if he hasn’t already. But, what I do is I parcel out by decades’ worth of material. For MacFarlane, the first ten years of the 2000’s featured Family Guy, American Dad, The Cleveland Show, Ted, and a bunch of one-hit wonders. For Justin, he’s got the next ten years starting in 2010 in terms of importance. I do think, the next one is already here in the form of Vivienne Medrano, and if she isn’t rich by the end of THIS decade, I’m suing somebody.

The Maryland-based producer and head of Spindle Toons has already two-bonafide adult animation hits in Hazbin Hotel which currently is in production and being shopped by A24 and will hopefully get SOME sort of news as the series’ web debut hits a three year anniversary on October 28th (the fact that the pilot is being produced by FOX-owned Princess Bento is a good sign). Her other smash-hit Youtube series, Helluva Boss, just kicked off an already successful second season as the series is also slated to hit a multi-year milestone on Halloween. BOTH series have amassed hundreds of millions of views on Youtube, with the studio’s Helluva Boss’ most recent episode hitting near 10 million views at the time of this writing.

Youtube is over-saturated with content of all types, so nowadays when I hear 10 million views in just a couple of days, that’s worth taking notice. Putting it another way, Adult Swim’s Rick and Morty digital spin-off series, Vindicators 2, is right now at 5.4 million views TOTAL. That means Helluva Boss’ second season episode is getting 2x as many views as a digital series spun off from one of the biggest animated franchises of all-time.

Every network and streamer looking for that next big hit, needs to start looking at the Youtube channels for Spindlehorse. The hits are there, it’s a matter of whether or not networks are willing to grow a set and give us a bunch of seasons. I hear an announcement for one of the aforementioned franchises could come this week, so stay tuned for more news as it develops.
