Overview (Spoilers Below):

No Smurf Out!

Because Scaredy is afraid that a ghost is haunting his house, he asks Handy to make it secure. Too well secured, he finds himself locked in his house with Brainy, Blossom, and Chef.

Soufflé Shuffle

When Chef twists his ankle, Greedy is tasked to deliver his soufflé to the Spring Festival.

Our Take:

The first episode features another spooky plot involving Scaredy Smurf. But, this time, he’ll deal with his highly secured house instead of being a scary creature. This dilemma is because Scaredy fears that a ghost is haunting his house. So he asks Handy to upgrade his home to make it more sturdy. Unfortunately, Handy made it a bit too secure, resulting in Scaredy and Handy being locked up with Brainy, Blossom, and Chef.

Much of the humor consists of the Smurfs’ attempts to break out of Scaredy’s secured home when Handy makes the house soundproof for the other Smurfs to hear their cries. During the process, they briefly deal with Brainy’s desire to use the restroom, a bouncy stool from Jokey, and Handy’s delirious nature. They eventually escape through the window when Scaredy throws the stool out, only to discover that they’ve been locked in for ten minutes.

The second episode’s plot consists of Greedy Smurf doing a vital task for Chef. After Chef gets injured during an argument, he regretfully tasks Greedy to bring his soufflé to the Spring Festival. However, Greedy has to deliver the food in one piece without eating it.

The humor in this episode mainly involves Greedy and Chef encountering several obstacles during their dangerous trek. Not only does Greedy have to avoid eating the soufflé while dealing with his empty stomach, but he also has to avoid a swarm of birds, a hungry bear, and Gargamel himself. They eventually made it to the festival, with Greedy learning to put his needs aside to get the task done. However, the soufflé deflated before Greedy gets a chance to have the first bite.

Overall, both episodes are serviceable in providing cabin fever and a tasty quest into the smurfy adventures. “No Smurf Out” offers a story similar to the other episodes from previous shows, but it still delivers plenty of laughs involving the Smurfs’ desire to escape the house. “Soufflé Shuffle” is a fun little trek that sees Greedy accomplish a selfless objective that tests his greedy nature.
