English Dub Review: Girlfriend, Girlfriend “Girlfriend, Girlfriend”

Overview

Nagisa had insisted on supporting Saki on the hot spring vacation, but when Saki confronts her about it, she begins to speak her mind…

Our Take

We’re now given further context and backstory for Nagisa on why she chose a guy who she already knew had a girlfriend and the events leading up to the first episode. I think they did a great job developing Nagisa in general which was good since she was the one who technically started up this whole plot, to begin with.

Of course, nothing can hide away from Naoya’s ears, and he heard the whole commotion unintentionally from the other side of the wall during Nagisa’s exposition dump to Saki about her past. Consequently, when Naoya confronts her, this ends up leading to another chaotic cat-and-mouse chase with almost half of the episode having them run across the mountain with Naoya intentional or not, showing how amazing his stamina is despite the wackiness of the proceedings leading up to a few twists near the end…

Overall, this ended on a strangely wholesome note. Nagisa’s backstory made me like her a little bit more as she has the same level of determination as Rika with the only difference being that Nagisa was being too passive about it. Saki finally comes clean to Shino about what’s going on and while Shino is less than thrilled about what her best friend Saki has gotten herself into, It’s heavily implied that Shino may also have feelings for Naoya even if she isn’t completely honest with herself. With the recent announcement of season 2, we’ll most likely look forward to seeing more of this wacky harem hijinks somewhere down the line when it finally gets an English Dub release in the future.
