English Dub Review: Link Click “Aunt May”

Overview:

Lu and Cheng continue trying to find a missing child named Dodo.

Our Take:

While in the past, Cheng runs into Qiao. She asks what he’s doing there, but he just runs away instead of answering her. Unfortunately, he also loses track of where Dodo and his kidnapper went.

The trio have to tell the father they failed. Qiao confesses that she saw Dodo the day he went missing and she apologizes for not saying anything. The father forgives her and says he refuses to live in regret. He’s just going to move forward and keep looking for his son. Cheng asks him if he has any photos from the day he went missing. Sure enough, Dodo took a picture on his phone that day and his father didn’t even realize it.

Cheng goes into the photo and takes Dodo’s place. A woman drugs him and kidnaps him. When he comes to, Cheng finds the woman’s ID while she’s sleeping and finds out that her name is May. She lunges after him, but Cheng hits her with a killer uppercut. He hits her again and tells her to take good care of the child. He makes her believe that it’s a message from her ancestors.

Back in the present, Dodo is finally reunited with his parents after three long years. Sure enough, May believes the message and she says she treated Dodo like he was her own.

After that’s all said and done, the officer talks to Cheng about his abilities. Apparently, Cheng shows up on the security camera footage now. He wants to enlist the studio’s help on an ongoing case. Lu looks at the pictures the officer has. It turns out the pictures are regarding the murder of Lihua Wu, the girl from the first episode.

I’m glad that the family has been reunited. I was honestly worried that they wouldn’t get that happy ending, but we got there eventually. I always think that Cheng, Lu, and Qiao dressing up as Dodo’s favorite superheroes is a nice touch. It really ties the whole case together in a nice bow.

It’s interesting that Cheng now shows up on the security camera footage from three years prior. Not only that, but we also see the meeting between Cheng and Qiao the second time he travels into the past. It seems they alter the past more than they think, even when they’re not trying. I’m surprised that Qiao didn’t mention anything about seeing Cheng on that day, but that’s more of a minor nitpick.

I’m intrigued to see where the case with Lihua Wu will go, assuming they’ll take it. If I remember correctly, Lu never told Cheng that she died after their job. I’ve been waiting for that to come full circle and it looks like I’m about to get my wish.
