With Lupin having such a skilled mind and a continent-sized ego, how will Lupin and his crew face such an unprecedented and tough challenge!?Our Take For this episode, we now have another self-contained storyline written by guest-writer Akira Kindaiachi Who’s previous works involve certain episodes of Takt op. Destiny and Kakeguri Twin along with a previous Lupin episode he did. As this one delves into another classic episode of Lupin vs. Technology except this time around, it’s Wangtic and their highly advanced security system led by Ms. Lingfeng Wang who is so confident that her Lupin system is flawless that she extends a challenge to Lupin himself to steal a priceless coin from the safe. Of course, Lupin himself won’t back down from a challenge and accepts the offer.It also turns out, that Ms. Wang’s motivations behind capturing Lupin are a twist I didn’t expect to see. And so far Lupin’s plan to beat such a “perfect security system” turns out to be an elaborate and genius way to fool the identification system. Things were going well until Ms. Wang jams their method of communications when they get into position and suddenly something that’s been lingering in the background becomes a “checkov’s gun” for Lupin and his crew that threw me off in such a spectacular way. Overall, this was a fun episode. I was always wondering why no one invented such a system to counter people like Lupin, and while we’ve seen stories of Lupin facing against high tech systems or elaborate and intricate death traps in the past. It of course didn’t stop him from going against it anyway. And the twist with Ms. Wang was comical but I’m surprised Zenigata didn’t recognize her given that she used to be an Interpol agent. I look forward to seeing what comes next after this since this is continuing the storyline involving one of Lupin’s old mentors Tomoe.
