SDCC2022: 20th Television Animation/Disney Prime-Time Animation Panel/FOX Television Recaps

Disney probably won the entirety of SDCC 2022 on just adult animation alone. Here’s notes from all the panels that we checked out and then a random FOX Entertainment one because it’s been a long weekend.

THE PROUD FAMILY: LOUDER AND PROUDER”

The second season of The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder is currently in production and cast and crew were in tow to tease. Expect to see the show to continue to go down the rabbit hole of serious topics like Juneteenth, Penny moving, and reparations. We got to see a sizzle reel for the upcoming season and it looks as though BIG things are on the way!

 BOB’S BURGERS

The Bob’s Burgers Movie had a screening at SDCC 2022, but that’s it. The panel was ultimately canceled for some unknown reason so no news for the upcoming season, which is sad, because there were lots of Bob’s Burgers fans. A food truck, merch, and lots of movie insignia were around, but nobody from the cast. I guess when a movie doesn’t break even, Disney breaks your legs?

FX’s THE LITTLE DEMONS

I’m getting Golan the Insatiable vibes from watching the first glimpses of the debut season. That said, the guest cast to go along with an already solid cast of Danny/Lucy Devito, and Aubrey Plaza includes Arnold Schwarzenegger, Lamorne Morris, Dave Bautista, Sam Richardson, Pamela Adlon, Mel Brooks, and more. Check out the clips below.

FX’s “ARCHER”

Half of the cast Zoomed in which has been a thing this year with a number of other panels. In any event, no major news here. Instead, this felt like a remembrance of the late Jessica Walter of whom will be part of a very touching Malory finale when the show says goodbye to her.

THE GREAT NORTH”

Half the cast Zoomed in, but not a lot of news anyway. A tease of some yetis showing up. Here’s a clip.

The Simpsons

Alex Hirsch might be the GOAT panel host of all-time. Some notes, we’re getting TWO Treehouse episodes this year and we’re getting bits inspired by It, Death Note, Ellen, and Melissa McCarthy will be a guest star as a rival to Grampa. Somewhat related, ViceTV is setting up a six-episode docu-series to detail secrets from The Simpsons via Icons: Unearthed.

AMERICAN DAD!” and “FAMILY GUY

The only real American Dad news is that a new season is set to premiere on September 5th on TBS (not HBO MAX as rumored, and no, the show is never going there) with Jason Isaacs, Terry Crews, Laurie Metcalf, Patti Harrison, and Jared Harris guest starring. Family Guy showed a sneak peek for their premiere episode which is another “three-piece” with the show doing send-ups of Oscar-winning films. Here’s a clip. Returning and new voice cast coming down the pike include Mario Lopez, Gerald McRaney, Jay Pharoah, Martha Plimpton, Casey Wilson and Sam Elliott.

HAMSTER & GRETEL

Maybe one of the more exciting premieres from Disney, Hamster & Gretel, which sees the return of Dan Povenmire to Disney Channel primetime on August 12th. Pretty much everything talked about for the show we already knew and you can see in our preview.

A prime-time premiere will happen on the 12th, after that, the series goes Saturday mornings.

Krapopolis

I know, not Disney, but FOX booked this panel in the bevy of Disney panels.

Announced today at SAN DIEGO COMIC-CON, fans can catch a special preview of KRAPOPOLIS November 27, 2022 on FOX, ahead of its 2023 premiere! This comes off of the recent NFT launch by the new animated franchise that you can learn more about here.

About KRAPOPOLIS:

Highly anticipated new animated series from Dan Harmon (co-creator of “Rick and Morty”), KRAPOPOLIS centers on a flawed family of humans, gods and monsters that tries to run one of the world’s first cities without killing each other. In the series, Richard Ayoade (“The IT Crowd”), voices “Tyrannis”, the mortal son of a goddess. He’s the benevolent King of Krapopolis trying to make do in a city that lives up to its name. Hannah Waddingham (“Ted Lasso”), plays “Deliria,” Tyrannis’ mother, goddess of self-destruction and questionable choices. Within her extended Olympian family – forged in patricide and infidelity – she’s known as the trashy one. Matt Berry (“What We Do in The Shadows”) is “Shlub,” Tyrannis’ father, a mantitaur (half centaur [horse + human], half manticore [lion + human + scorpion]). He is oversexed and underemployed, claims to be an artist and has literally never paid for anything, in any sense of that word, for his entire life. Pam Murphy (“Mapleworth Murders”) voices “Stupendous,” Tyrannis’ half-sister, daughter of Deliria and a cyclops. Duncan Trussell (“The Midnight Gospel”) plays “Hippocampus,” Tyrannis’ half-brother, offspring of Shlub and a mermaid, and, obviously, a hot mess, biologically speaking.
