Review: The Loud House “Cat-astrophe/Prize Fighter”

Overview (Spoilers Below):

Cat-astrophe

The McBrides plan a birthday party for Nana Gayle.

Prize Fighter

Lola worries she’s a washed-up pageant star.

Our Take:

The first episode offers a McBride-centered story that has the family celebrating Nana Gayle’s birthday. Unfortunately, the McBrides focused so much on hosting a graduation party for their cats, Neo and Cleo, that they forgot about setting up Nana’s party. So the family makes a last-minute effort to prepare everything for her special day.

The humor in this episode consists of Clyde and the dads attempting to get the party gear with disastrous results. Harold accidentally ruins the cake, Howard has trouble getting the party decorations, and Clyde can’t get Luan to perform at the party. As a result, they decide to use their cat graduation party decorations as Nana’s party supplies. Of course, things went wrong, but Nana Gayle winds up appreciating her family’s efforts in creating her party. The episode’s running gag consists of Miss Bernardo acting like a cat, which was admittedly silly.

The second episode sees Lola attempting to get a special pageant award for performing good deeds. However, while pretending to be a nice person for the prize, Lola overhears that the award is cursed, with the winner not winning any more pageants. So she attempts to drop out of the race by being the biggest brat on the planet. Fortunately, a simple misunderstanding forces Lola to discover what it truly means to be a good person.

Overall, both episodes are entertaining enough to portray their kitty antics and good deeds. “Cat-astrophe” is a simple yet amusing episode with the McBrides using cat-themed party decorations to set up a last-minute birthday party for Nana Gayle. “Prize Fighter” continues the show’s second-episode trend of providing solid messages by having Lola learn that being friendly towards others is a better award than earning an actual trophy.
