English Dub Review: The Fruit of Evolution: Before I Knew It, My Life Had It Made “Beautiful Valkyrie”

Overview:

Seiichi gets taken to spend the day with the Valkyries. He meets their captain, Louise, and faces her in a mock battle.

Our Take:

When we last saw the group, Lulune transformed into a human after eating the fruit of evolution. Seiichi tries to explain that, but Artoria falls into the old anime trope of beating up a guy during a misunderstanding. Saria shows Artoria that animals can actually turn into humans because of the fruit of evolution, so this doesn’t last long.

While they’re out shopping, two Valkyries restrain Seiichi and take him to the castle. He meets their captain, Louise, who he faces in a mock battle. It should be no surprise that he acquires new skills and ends up beating her.

It seems like Louise needed this because she’s always gotten stronger. Unfortunately, that also means she’s always been distant from others. Losing to Seiichi and becoming his apprentice all of a sudden will save her, I guess.

Meanwhile, most of the demons want to form an alliance with the kingdom. There’s one who doesn’t because that will go against his plan. We also get another look at the other students which shows some tension between them, but I still have no reason to care about them. Finally, the king gets attacked and Seiichi is looking for the assailant.

This episode is just more of the same. Seiichi continues growing to godly levels of ability for no reason and his personality is still that of a cardboard box. What’s worse is that he still acts surprised whenever he gains new skills or beats opponents easily. This has been going on for too long for him to still be legitimately surprised.

As for the Valkyries, I don’t have much to go off of. The three main members of the group don’t have much in the way of personalities either. Louise gets a little backstory, but it feels like they’re rushing her relationship with Seiichi. This has happened with every other girl so far, except Artoria, so I’m not surprised. That being said, I’m also not impressed.
