English Dub Review: Love Live! Nijigasaki High School Idol Club “The Place Where the Rainbow Begins”

Overview:

It’s the final day of the school idol festival, which means it’s time for the final performances. Yuu is struggling to write a song for the club’s finale.

Our Take:

The school idol festival is coming to a close, but there’s still one more day of performances. Lanzhu kicks the day off with a bang as expected. The rest of the groups follow suit with more stellar performances. It’s all leading up to Nijigasaki High School Idol Club’s grand finale. Yuu is working on a song for their performance.

Unfortunately, Yuu is suffering from writer’s block. She wants to find her thrill and make the song as special as it can be. She takes a break and wanders around the festival to clear her head.

The other girls cherr on her of course, but the one I was most surprised to see give Yuu advice was Mia. Mia tells Yuu that her goal should be different than that of the others since she’s not actually performing. Yuu finally figures out what she wants to do for the song and Mia helps her put it together.

When it’s time for the finale, the club gives a heartfelt thank you to everyone involved with the festival. Then it’s revealed that Yuu will accompanying them live on piano. I expected she would perform with the others at some point and I think this counts.

The performance goes over well and everyone celebrates a successful festival. Lanzhu admits that she was wrong about Yuu and the rest of the club. She also says she can’t compete with them, but she doesn’t regret coming to the school. After she walks away from the others, she quietly says “Goodbye,” which makes me wonder what her plan is now.

The festival ends on a high note and almost everyone seems like they’re in a good mood. Plus, Mia finally does something notable. Better late than never, I suppose. The way the episode ends  leaves me wanting more, which is always a good thing.
