English Dub Review: Takt Op.Destiny “Sunrise -Rooster-”

Overview

Takt and crew stop by a certain town. All of the young people had fled the town, leaving only the elderly. The residents happen to ask Anna and Destiny for help. Meanwhile, Takt wandered around town on his own and happens to hear a melody quietly resonating from an old bar. It was definitely the sound of music…

Our Take

This time around we have sort of a “filler” episode that has zero action scenes whatsoever, yet it excels in terms of interactions and character building as Takt and his crew stop by and shop for groceries in an old, flaccid town where elderly people (both men and women) reside, and having to tend to old people’s daily problems. While this is going on, Takt proceeds to search for the girls and lands himself in a music shop that’s also a bar almost giving some prohibition vibes from how everyone is secretly congregating just to hear music. What stood out to me the most was hearing a Louis Armstrong rendition of “When The Saints Go Marching In” jazz-like music in a music shop of this time period, it’s kinda weird to not hear classical music (because of the D2s). They’re also deprived of classical music, and a composer like Takt’s father Kenji “Rooster” Asahina is sorely missed by the community (which they went speechless upon discovering that Takt was their son).

I find it interesting to still have a community that’s loyal to classical music, and with the small “secret” soundproof room stage set behind the bar, reminiscing on glory days past, together with Takt’s piano music like his father’s, it brings back nostalgia for them. And at a later point in the story, Cosette and Anna were stuck helping old people all day long until they got kidnapped by a strange Hispanic woman who thought of Anna as her daughter. Everything got solved on their end which left me with lots of questions. Given that these elderly people chose to stay, how is this town able to function without no apparent sources of income, and no reliable workforce, yet they still they have food, electricity, and communications? Also, the streets look relatively clean and somehow maintained which is miraculous that any D2s at all haven’t ravaged the place any further…

Overall, a pretty balanced and chill filler episode that combined a nice exploration of the town with Anna and Cosette that gave them a rare opportunity to interact with each other as well as some much-needed expansion on Takt regarding what kind of person his father was, and how much his influence has impacted him and by-extension people who loved his father’s music. Anyway, a new musicart in the end, the designs are beautiful as hell. At least for Cosette though, as much of an “idiot nerd” of a Conductor that he is, as long as Takt can play the music that he loves, her calling of being a Musicart is justified to defeat the D2s.
