English Dub Review: Requiem of the Rose King “Because God has chosen this bloody demon.”

Overview (Spoilers Below):
Richard and Buckingham’s plots come to a head in an open bid for the throne. But even if they outmaneuver Elizabeth and her sons, can Richard overcome his own mother?

Our Take:
Last week’s episode ended on a shocking cliffhanger, with Catesby going toe-to-toe against the treacherous Hastings. What’s surprising about it is that we have no idea which one dealt the final blow. This episode immediately helps us answer that nail-biting question, with Catesby living to fight another day. Hastings, not so much.
Following the intense confrontation and Stanley pledging loyalty, Richard and Buckingham have finally overthrown Queen Elizabeth and her sons. As a result, Richard’s path to becoming king is now complete. Unfortunately, there’s still a matter of the townspeople turning against Richard after Cecily exposes his true identity. Luckily, Richard’s authentic performance quickly won them over, upsetting the desperate mother.
The episode concludes Richard’s journey in stunningly poetic fashion, with him being the new Yorkist king of England. However, that doesn’t mean all is said and done for the self-proclaimed demon. Instead, it sets Richard on a new path to fulfill his duty as the people’s latest ruler. Like my feelings about his previous journey, I’m admittedly intrigued to see what happens next.
It maintains the gorgeous animation style and absorbing storytelling I expected from the earlier episodes. More importantly, it effectively kicks off another chain of events that may jeopardize Richard’s rule (and his life). Cecily will still find a way to dethrone her son later on, which is unsurprising. Additionally, Buckingham is overshadowed by jealousy when Richard decides to share his bed with his wife Anne, and the mysterious guy in the demon costume has other plans for the new king. God has definitely chosen this bloody demon to be the king, and from the looks of this riveting episode, He has made the right choice…for now, at least.
