English Dub Review: Love After World Domination “Just the Way You Are”

Overview:

Desumi tries to help her coworker, Steel Princess, on her quest to confessing her love. Afterwards, Desumi tries to feed Fudou for the first time with unexpected results.

Our Take:

It’s no secret that Desumi is the best girl in this show. She’s also apparently the best princess in Gekko. We’ve been introduced to the other princesses in the past, but we get to know Beast Princess and Steel Princess a little better in this episode.

Beast Princess is short-tempered and rude, but I find her to be an enjoyable character. Her blunt remarks got several laughs out of me. Steel Princess, on the other hand, is more reserved and lacks self-confidence. She’s a fun character too, but she doesn’t have that same kind of spunk.

Watching Desumi and Beast Princess help her improve her confidence in order to confess her love to a coworker is fun. Desumi’s plan doesn’t work, but it’s hysterical watching Steel Princess fail miserably at cooking, painting her nails, and every other activity they try. Plus, Beast Princess begrudgingly going along with the whole is just as funny.

Thanks to Fudou, Desumi discovers that it’s better for Steel Princess to just be confident in who she already is. Steel Princess is then able to tell Culverin Bear how she feels and they end up together, despite it being against Gekko’s policy. This isn’t the outcome I expected, but it’s still nice.

Culverin Bear brings Steel Princess along for his squad’s next battle against Gelato 5. The heroes find themselves outnumbered, so Blue goes and looks for Red. He runs into Pink, who is serving as Fudou’s and Desumi’s lookout, and she turns him away. I love that Haru is behind their relationship on and off the battlefield. That being said, I’m waiting for the rest of the group to become suspicious.

Desumi makes Fudou lunch and wants to feed him romantically. Right when she’s about to, Fudou has an appendicitis attacks and ends up in the hospital. Everything works out in the end because Desumi does feed Fudou when she visits him in the hospital.

There’s a funny and touching moment between Fudou’s mom and Desumi. Fudou’s mom drags Desumi to a volleyball game, which their team wins. After that, she shows Desumi a picture of a young Fudou and asks Desumi to take care of her son. Desumi agrees, which is just a nice wholesome way to end the episode.

I like that the romance in this show isn’t just ending with the main couple. It’s nice seeing other characters’ love lives being focused on as well. It also helps that the moments we get with the main couple continue to be sweet. In fact, they’re becoming more intimate from episode to episode and I love that progression.
