“Disaster Express”

Our Take

For the first episode, looking beyond the wackiness of Pony taping hot dogs to his hooves for fingers to play bowling, the heart of the story is about Annie trying to impress a guy who’s into bowling and despite not being a fan of bowling herself, is willing to play a game she dislikes just to be close to this shallow guy who can’t even memorize her name and starts to get jealous when Pony develops bowling skills with his newfound somehow functional fingers…

As for the 2nd episode, the humor’s focus involves “Escape Rooms” and Pony being the dolt that he is, thinks he’s in one during a subway train ride that begins to go haywire, while Gerry is in a space-themed escape room attempting to win some “hall-of-fame” status.

Overall, both episodes were passable. The first one has a properly conveyed message about the struggles of being accepted by others even if the person you’re seeking the attention or approval of might not be worth it, while the other mostly worked as a comedy of errors in terms of escalation. There are funny moments but on a consistent level, the “Gerry X Clara” shipping still remains present. I also loved the jokes about the passengers behaving like zombies at the sight of a working smartphone in the subway which I’m not even sure is a thing or not…
