OverviewBased on the Japanese romantic comedy manga series by Keigo Maki. The story follows the naturally unlucky Yuu Izumi who faces yet another day of disaster after disaster. Even on his way to meet up with his girlfriend Shikimori in the morning, he runs into so many troubles that he’s a mess by the time he sees her. Still, the cute, sweet Shikimori who greets him with a kind smile. But when Izumi is in trouble, the lovely Shikimori instantly transforms into the coolest, most heroic girlfriend you’ve ever seen…Our TakeI think the main selling point in the show so far is the chemistry between Shikimori and Yuu, since they are the main pair. With his continuous string misfortune, it also leaves you wondering how a guy like Yuu was able to get a girlfriend like Shikimori? And to start a new school year with minimal damage? On the subject, I’m left really curious about his misfortune and why it’s occurring, to begin with. As the show attempts to be funny at Izumi’s expense due to his perpetual bad luck like he’s Martin Short’s character from the 1991 movie “Pure Luck” relying mostly on physical comedy and awkward predicaments and how Shikimori handles it in an everyday sense. Or why does she go through a weird personality shift whenever she wants to look out for Yuu? Overall, this was a very enjoyable first episode. The character designs and the visuals look bright and colorful. And the atmosphere works in a lighthearted comedic way. If this anime wasn’t “slice of life” I think Yuu’s bad luck would’ve been predicated on the extremes of a Death Note episode or the Final Destination movies. But thankfully, that’s not the case here.
