English Dub Review: Salaryman’s Club “Alternative”

Overview

It’s the quarterfinals of the national corporate badminton tournament. Their opponents are the powerful Unisics team they lost to in a practice match. The members of SunBev are eager to get revenge. Mikoto and Tatsuru take on Kirishima and Oginome in a rematch. Their match is a fierce back and forth game of offense and defense. From the stands, QA department employee Usuyama watches them play…

Our Take

It’s back to the corporate badminton tournament after taking a business break, and the Mitsuhoshi Bank team is on the lookout for potential competitors, people whom they know from their past. Sunlight Beverage is facing the Unisics once again, which they lost the last time. Good on them that Mikoto is doing extensive research on their doubles opponent and factoring in alternative currents, and he’s paving the way for their success while the games give them constant pushbacks in the usual heated 21-point match.

The Miyazumi/Shiratori team did amazing, but that bit on Miyazumi’s leg is worrying. I find it funny that Souta thinks that there’s nothing he can do against a genius. Also, the Unisic’s moves were well animated and very acrobatic at some parts, are real badminton players that flexible?

Overall, The Matches are short but the slice of life atmosphere this show is going for was ever-present. There’s an intensity in the match, but this episode just showed us the current and rising problems for sunlight beverages. Tatsuru’s leg injury seems to be a possible hindrance in winning the S/J League, hopefully, he does listen to his teammate’s concerns And Usuyama finally joins the team too, after covering more on his background and explaining why he left badminton, It is cliche yet serviceable when an old player reignites their love of their sport at least. Also, watch for the post-credits scene…
