English Dub Review: Requiem of the Rose King “Part One Digest: Meetings and Partings”

Overview (Spoilers Below):

As the story enters its second half, this summary offers a refresher and an introduction to Requiem of the Rose King.

Our Take:

Well, here’s something I don’t usually see in my anime-binging days. Last week, the series concluded its riveting first half with Richard proposing to Anne following the death of King Henry VI. This would’ve been the end of Richard’s loveless torment and, more importantly, the war between York and Lancaster. However, it actually signifies that their problems are just beginning, with only a few more battles left unfinished.

This week’s episode should’ve marked the start of the show’s second half. But instead, the creators decided to include a “recap” episode that reflects on the ups and downs of the first twelve chapters, mainly the downs. In other words, it’s a shortened summary of the first half of Requiem of the Rose King. So if you don’t want to waste an entire day catching up with the series, this episode offers enough to let you know what went down in the bleak Shakespearean world.

There’s not much to say about this mid-season episode other than it’s a recap of the show’s first half—nothing more and nothing less. However, I will also say that it’s both necessary and unnecessary. The episode is essential for people wanting the fastest way to catch up with the series. Although, I would still recommend that they watch the first twelve episodes to get the whole experience. Unfortunately, the recap is also an unnecessary filler built to prolong the wait for the show’s second half. Luckily, it didn’t change my opinion on Requiem of the Rose King so far. It’s a captivating and beautifully animated series that gradually improved with each episode. I’m highly interested in seeing what else it will bring next week.
