English Dub Review: Seirei Gensouki: Spirit Chronicles “Fated Reunion”

Overview

The moment the carriage carrying Celia arrives at the great temple where the wedding is being held, a dark figure darts toward her, threading nimbly through the crowd. The figure who so easily overpowers the knights acting as guards to steal Celia away is Rio. In the face of Rio’s straight-forward emotions, asking Celia once again what her will in the matter is, she finally speaks her true feelings…

Our Take

As expected, Rio crashed the party and rescued Celia from that shit-person with the 6-wives. The fight with the King’s sword was pretty cool too. I guess Celia’s dream came true, was being taken away by Rio in a wedding dress even if it wasn’t how she envisioned things.

Also, Rio actually killed some people which surprised me a bit. I’m always annoyed when they just decide to harm no one, but he’s considered a wanted fugitive and it’s a “kill or be killed” scenario. But I did love how Rio made sure that Charles got humiliated in the process.

Overall, I knew this was going to be a shameless power fantasy and a pastiche of other Isekai anime that came before it, but it was mildly entertaining in places. Other than that, not much to say about this show. It felt generic to me. The characters were alright, the fights were sometimes passable, and I guess even the final fight in combination with the cliffhanger ending post-credits was one of the few things it had going for it. Whether or not season 2 happens remains to be seen…
