English Dub Review: Seirei Gensouki: Spirit Chronicles. “A Spirit’s Awakening”

Overview

Rio returns home to the village of the People of the Spirits. The next day, he wakes to find an unknown, beautiful, naked girl beside him…?! Latifa and the others peek into the room and chaos ensues, but it turns out that the girl is Rio’s bond spirit. As she doesn’t have a name, Rio gives her one-Aishia. Dryas, a spirit of great trees, appears after sensing the presence of a powerful spirit. At her urging, Rio and Aishia agree to fight in order to determine her combat capabilities…

Our Take

Let’s be honest here, Rio for quite some time has shown to be a hyper-capable badass despite the hardships adversities he’s suffered before him. Did he really need a spirit to be inside him, or even show up? Also, we now have another girl joining Rio’s so-called harem and this time it’s his spirit who he named Aishia and then they had a fight between themselves to see how strong they both are, and damn, they knew how to put on quite a show combat-wise.

We also learn during the course of 5 years since Rio was forcibly kicked out of magic school since Episode 3, that Aishia and Rio are going to meet Celia again whom this time has gotten into an arranged marriage with the biggest asshole around, Charles. And from the way things look, Celia doesn’t look happy at all…

Overall, this seems like one of the best episodes so far, Can’t wait to have Rio stir up that party to steal Celia and take her to the spirit village. It’s also very plausible to expect someone to be in the same place after 4-5 years. When you go revisit a place you haven’t been to, there will always be changes, but said changes are rarely anywhere near what stayed the same.
