English Dub Review: Heaven Official’s Blessing “Lost Crescentian”

Overview:

There’s a problem at the Crescent Pass. The old man who passed out was a puppet sent by a demon. Nan Feng and Fu Yao come to check up on Xie Lian. They all decide to investigate the Crescent Pass.

Our Take:

Well, the sexual tension definitely picks up this episode. There is definitely something between Xie and Sun (who is most definitely not Hua *wink*). Fu Yao and Nan Feng return and are immediately distrustful of the newcomer. With Xie Lian’s permission, they test to see if he’s safe. He manages to pass but I still think there is something up with him.

I was really glad Fu Yao returned because I am a big fan of Lucien Dodge. When I first heard him I thought he was just trying to impersonate Johnny Yong Bosch. I’ve learned that’s not the case even if they do sound similar and he does well in his own right. He just adds a lot of personality and charm to the characters that he portrays that I really appreciate.

One thing this show has been kind of missing is a female presence. I have found that is one thing I don’t really like about yuri or yaoi shows. It focuses so much on the same-sex coupling that there are usually very few of the other gender to avoid any confusion. Luckily that might be coming to an end soon because at the end of this episode it looks like there is a woman in the sandstorm. She had a pretty unique character design from what I could see and you know what that means in anime? Probably an important character! We’ll see next time!
