English Dub Review: The Detective is Already Dead “What I See in That Eye”

Overview(Possible Spoilers):

Yui’s concert goes a little off track. She changes up the setlist and has a sapphire in her eye, which someone tries to shoot with an arrow. Turns out she was told that Kimi was trying to steal her eye and was trying to kill him. Nagisa is a smooth talker and uses those skills to get through to Yui.

Our Take:

I’m a sucker for a good idol show and they put in a pretty good one here. The real sapphire wasn’t the one at Yui’s house but the one in her left eye. It operates a bit like Bat’s ear in that it’s special. With it, she can see through things like X-Ray vision. I really hope there are more “abilities” like this. It adds some unique charm to the series.

Nagisa is an interesting character but has done much as a detective since the reveal about her heart. I like that she at least addressed it herself as opposed to it just not being a problem. But I really need a bit more from Nagisa as a character, like I can tell that she’s supposed to be important but she isn’t showing that.

Kimizuka on the other hand is a fun character. Austin Tindle brings him to life brilliantly and it’s just different from how he usually performs. I like silent, smart characters who keep things close to their chest. But again it’s a bit of a double-edged sword because Nagisa is supposed to be the detective but Kimi doesn’t let her in on any of his secrets or theories.

Siesta is the best character in the show by far and she’s dead. Like I am sure we will probably get more flashbacks but that feels like a cop out. What is Nagisa’s purpose? Is she there just to give us hope that Siesta will come back in some way? Feels like a poor way to treat an interesting enough character with a unique plot point. It’s not a bad show but I just wonder where it’s going to go from here.
