English Dub Review: That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime: “The Eve of Battle”

Overview: Rimuru (Brittany Karbowski)and co. discuss how their army will move on Clayman (John Burgmeier) and his forces.

Our Take: Rimuru’s power scaling being absolutely broken in him literally being able to create spells out of thin air for any use case whatsoever never ceases to amaze me. Whatever the issue he finds himself in, is nothing more than a simple inconvenience much to me endless amazement and joy. The most engaging of conflicts the series has to offer and the ones that have been centered on the most are those of neighboring countries and powers. These types of overpowered workarounds while convenient are at this point just comical to watch and never take away from the severity of a situation.

The first half really is just the staging ground for how Rimuru and his army will proceed against Clayman. Another facet of the Rimuru’s strategies that this entry makes prevalent is how attentively Rimuru dots all his i’s and crosses his t’s in laying every detail, including who strategically makes the most sense to bring to Walpurgis and as backup waiting in Tempest. Also everyone’s insane admiration for Rimuru is continuously hilarious with how the cast ups the ante like how Diablo and Shion are chomping at the bit to kick Clayman’s ass for something he could hypothetically say to Rimuru. And in all honesty, that would be damn enjoyable to watch, especially when taken into consideration Diablo’s complete embarrassment and utter donkey stomping of Razen.

Also with Malim’s forces being strong-armed by Clayman’s unit, it paves the path for explosive conflict with Malim, when she eventually breaks free from Clayman’s manipulation, to blow up in his face. And at long last, it finally commences the next episode, hopefully making all the pre-planning validated at the end of the epic battle.
