English Dub Review: My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom! X “Keith Disappeared… Part 2”

Overview

Catarina and a few of her friends set out on a journey to find Keith, assisted by Larna. Catarina still believes Keith left because of her. She tries her hardest to find some sort of clue in the first town they stop in, but there’s no useful information to be found. In the midst of all this, the captured Keith worries about the sister he left behind…



Our Take

Looks like we got more focus on trying to find Keith this time around. I don’t think Catarina should feel entirely guilty about his ass being gone. Of course, what keeps it from being played straight, is comedic moments involving a magical teddy bear which is low-key one of the funniest and wackiest characters to act against Catarina while this case continues with Larna and Raphael having inconclusive intel.


The transitions between Keith’s shitty situation and the usual harem comedy bullshit you’d come to expect from this show clashed and felt tonally disconnected. Not to mention I also thought the gang would rush to rescue him after learning his location, instead they decide to wait till the morning? I’m pretty sure if cops find a possible lead in a show like in Law & Order: SVU or Criminal Minds, they don’t just wait till morning to find the missing person in a kidnapping scenario!


Overall this was kind of an emotional yet sometimes badly written episode. Catarina is always supportive of her friends as expected, especially to Maria. While the pacing was on the slow side, there is enough progression in this episode to compensate and see what’s at stake for Keith. Not to mention, What’s happening to him I’m sure would be not a particularly desirable fate. I don’t buy the reason that his biological mother is innocent here, so the sooner that she, the bastard Thomas and that witch gets their asses put in their place, the better…
