Anime Streaming News: Crunchyroll Announces Eng Dub Slate ; Netflix Adds Two To Tomb Raider; Funimation Opens Josee, the Tiger and the Fish

Allen Maldonado (“Zip”) and Earl Baylon (“Jonah Maiava”) have joined the cast of the upcoming Tomb Raider anime series coming to Netflix. The Tasha Huo written series which recently announced Hayley Atwell in the lead takes place 25 years after the first game.

New dubbed anime series available in English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, and German include:

  • Seirei Gensouki: Spirit Chronicles – Realizing his mysterious past, one orphan sets out to live a better life attending a prestigious academy for noble children.

  • The Faraway Paladin  A young child raised by three undead ventures out to learn more about the world and become a famed Paladin.

  • The World’s Finest Assassin Gets Reincarnated in Another World as an Aristocrat
    – When a great assassin is reborn in another world, he finds himself the heir to a long line of killers from the shadows. With both his modern-day knowledge and experience and the special magic and techniques of this new world, he could very well become the most unstoppable assassin in history!

Crunchyroll also announced the production of a dub for ODDTAXI, which follows one odd taxi driver finds himself caught up in a mystery of idols, gangs and Tokyo’s secret underbelly. The series will premiere January 2022. Keep an eye out for an exciting announcement about this dubbed series at Anime NYC.

Crunchyroll will also offer additional episodes of 86 EIGHTY-SIX, dubbed across English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, and German. In this series, the battles of Lena and the Eighty-Six continue as they try to find a safe-haven.

Funimation,  announced today they are opening the heart-warming, animated film Josee, the Tiger and the Fish in Los Angeles on November 5, 2021. The film, which is English dubbed, will play at the Lamemmle Monica Film Center.

The emotional and cinematic coming-of-age love story is directed by Kotaro Tamura and produced by studio Bones (Fullmetal Alchemist, My Hero Academia). The film is 98 minutes and unrated. The film follows an unlikely pair, Josee, a gifted artist and disabled woman struggling to find purpose, and Tsuneo Suzukawa, a passionate scuba diver. The duo come together out of necessity and find they have a shared passion. Josee, the Tiger and the Fish is based on a 1985 short story written by Akutagawa Prize-winning author Seiko Tanabe.

Synopsis:

Tsuneo, an ordinary college student and avid diver, unexpectedly becomes the caretaker of a wheelchair-bound young woman in order to raise money for this dream to go diving in Mexico. This young woman, who calls herself Josee after her favorite book character, is sullen and demanding, but as Tsuneo helps Josee interact with the outside world and learns more about Josee’s unique perspective, their feelings grow into love. The two begin to support each other in ways beyond just romance.
