Review: The Chicken Squad “Feather Fever; The Big Parade”

OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)

A member of the team grapples with a possible COVID diagnosis, while another wonders if they can still be on the force after the complicated history is revealed.

OUR TAKE

As entertaining as that description sounds, it’s not what happened. This week had a couple of segments but thankfully they managed to be non-controversial AND be about very important values. First off, Coop wants to help the team like he usually does but finds himself coming down with a cold. As he tries to continue his duties, his oncoming cold begins to keep him from completing things as usual, eventually forcing him to sit things out to get better while the job is done. If you have a very important job or a friend you want to be there for, it might seem easy to ignore your health and focus on the task in front of you instead, but that will only make things worse in the end. If you don’t take care of your body when you need to, eventually things will catch up to you, and the worse it gets, the more you’re going to distract people with how sick you are. There are people who care about you that want to help, but they won’t be able to if you don’t help yourself. So make sure you prioritize your health when you need to or else you’ll be in a lot more trouble later!

The other plot this week is that Captain Tully is getting ready for a major commendation of her achievements over her long service, including uncovering an old and fragile work dress that means a lot to her. But when an incident happens at the parade, she decides to do her job that she’s best at even if she has to ruin the dress to save lives. I think the main lesson to take away from this is that what constitutes heroism is the willingness to do the right thing even when it’s hard, not just having a heroic appearance. All episode there’s focus placed on how important this dress is and how much it means to Tully, as it was something she wore in her early years. But as much as she wishes she could preserve it, she also still has that same spirit for justice that she had while she was wearing it, proving that her spirit goes beyond just the look of a hero, but the spirit of it as well. Also, Chicken Squad will be off next week so there won’t be a review, meaning I can finally get a break from this for at least one Friday!
