English Dub Review: Cells at Work! “Harmful Bacteria”

Overview (Spoilers Below):

During the journey to return the lactic acid bacteria, the Normal Cell notices the tension between White Blood Cell U-1146 and NK Cell. The group head to the large intestine but toxic gas from harmful bacteria damages the place. Meanwhile, Killer T Cell turns into Memory T Cell to track down a certain Cancer Cell. U-1146 rejoins NK Cell and Memory T Cell to hunt down the Cancer Cell but still directs Normal Cell to the path on getting the lactic acid bacteria home.

Meanwhile, Red Blood Cell AE3083 sees platelets getting a tour of the bacteria that live in the intestines. She plays with them for a bit as Normal Cell runs into the cells that work in the intestines while returning the lactic acid bacteria. However harmful bacteria infiltrate the intestines which cause havoc for cells in it and cause everyone to run. The trio of immune cells fights the Cancer Cell who ambushes them with a score to settle.

Our Take:

This week’s episode was a good one with the appearance of Cancer Cell and the disastrous conditions of the intestines. It looks like things are going to get chaotic in the body with the cells facing both disasters on both sides.

Normal Cell’s question to U-1146 about his reason for helping him was a bittersweet moment. It gets us back into the action of the Cancer Cell conflict and U-1146’s role in the body as a killer. Now the episode does have a bit of humor with Memory T Cell/Killer T Cell bumping into NK cell which spurs on an argument. U-1146 being stuck in the middle of it is mildly amusing until the reborn Cancer Cell attacks. I did enjoy Cancer Cell’s little monologue about the trio accompanied by the DNA images. It did help to emphasize the terrifying threat he possesses to the body.

On the other hand, the tour about the bacteria in the body was adorable. The platelets’ reactions to the puppet bacteria and the exhibits were cute. Furthermore, it drops a bit of educational information about the balance between good, bad, and opportunistic bacteria. It was a nice light-hearted moment in between the tension building up to the Cancer Cell’s return.

Overall it was a good episode and it looks like someone in high heels will approach one of the situations. Hopefully, it’ll turn out alright for the cells in the body.
