Season Review: Devil May Care Season One (Full Season)

The devil is in the details, and in Syfy’s new animated comedy Devil May Care, the details are pretty solid.

In DEVIL MAY CARE, a millennial named Beans (Asif Ali) finds himself in Hell with NO idea why. While meeting with the Devil (Alan Tudyk) upon his arrival, they quickly figure out that Beans’ job from his earthly days translate perfectly into the Hell-esphere. Just like that, Beans becomes Devil’s newest Social Media Manager, since online buzz is exactly what Hell’s been missing. The two form the most unlikely friendship, and together, while juggling Devil’s staff and family, they will surely get Hell trending.

While a lot of the early part of the season focused on Beans, the latter half seemed to focus a bit more on Regina (Pamela Adlon), aka Devil’s wife. This feisty demon seems to want hell to go back to the way things were and tries her best to do just that by seducing anything that moves, playing mean pranks for those up above the surface, and torturing Beans every chance she can get. The show features some solid guest stars like Lewis Black and Jack McBrayer as “God”, but the core cast is more than serviceable to take on a number of ancillary characters if need be, especially the aforementioned Tudyk and Adlon.

The finale sees hell freeze over and gives us a cliffhanger for additional happens which I hope really happens. It appears that Beans grows out of favor with the Devil and his henchmen and his time as the social media darling for hell could be coming to a close. Everything about the show works very solid. Nothing too flashy, a dirty animated comedy that’s a bit of a throwback to Adult Swim’s yesteryear with chock-full of cast and smart writing with a slew of original characters that anyone can get behind.
