Epic Games Picks Up “Gilgamesh” For Extended Release

Crunchyroll’s Onyx Equinox has proven that Mesoamerican cultures could make for fruitful animated adaptations and now Epic Games is jumping in by picking up development rights to Argentinian filmmaker Tomas Lipgot’s feature-length CG animated film Gilgamesh.

The film is being produced by Hook Up Animation and is slated to be adapted for English language. Gilgamesh is inspired by the Mesopotamian mythology and will explore demigod Gilgamesh’s quest for immortality and his rivalry then friendship with wild man Enkidu. Epic’s powerful Unreal engine will help power the full-length with further investment coming from Epic’s $100M MegaGrants fund.

If the trailer is any indication, then this thing’s going to go nuts and could fit right at home on Netflix. It features the Meso warriors going ape-shit on all sorts of mythological creatures which seems to insinuate that this one’s going to be for the older audiences. Check it out.
