Comic-Con@Home: HBO MAX Adult Animation Q&A

HBO MAX has been out for a couple weeks now and has already made a major splash with its original programming, as well as its extensive library of content. That selection is about to become even bigger soon with hit shows like Samurai Jack, Primal, Lazor Wulf, Final Space, and Robot Chicken all being available to stream in their entirety. To commemorate this, the creators of these shows were brought together to answer questions about significant moments they’ve had at previous Comic-Cons. Here are some of the highlights:

“How many times have you been to SDCC?”

Genndy Tartakovsky: I’ve been to SDCC probably about twenty times now and it’s always a pretty amazing experience for me, from the time that I first started going as just a comic book fan, then through Dexter’s Laboratory, through all the shows, and now with Primal.

Olan Rogers: Three times. I’ve been three times. All three times for Final Space. I am a newb.

“What’s your most memorable fan interaction?”

Carl Jones (creator of Black Dynamite): We were doing autographs for Black Dynamite and a guy bought a stolen bus ad. A Black Dynamite stolen bus ad. And he asked us all to sign it. He had no shame whatsoever. And after we all signed it, he had the nerve to try and sell it back to me. And yes, I did buy it.

“What is your biggest fanboy moment?”

Matthew Senreich: I’m a huge Edgar Wright fan and I got to start talking to him on Twitter. And he said he was at this bar in San Diego and if I got there quickly I’d be able to say hi, but I had a dinner meeting that I had to be at. I raced there as fast as I could and had like two minutes and found him crowded by probably twenty different people. I interrupted them all, said hi, he started talking, and then there was an awkward pause because all the people around us were paying attention to this conversation to see what I was gonna say…and I found myself completely blanked of what the important thing to say to spend two minutes with this guy that I idolized. So it ended up being this awkward moment and I just said “it’s good to meet you!” and ended up basically running out of that interaction. And it’s been two years since I’ve talked to him.

“What’s a special Comic-Con moment?”

Olan Rogers: What I miss about physical table reads is being in the same room, shoulder to shoulder, sitting there, reading through a script. Hearing people laugh, mist laughter! And you’re just accepting it because that’s the energy. That is experience. I miss that. Now it’s all Zoom calls.
