English Dub Review: Infinite Dendrogram “La Porte de I’Enfer”

(Possible Spoilers Below)

As Ray and Nemesis visit an item shop in Gideon, It’s here where Ray earns a special stallion from a strange Gumball-machine-style game. Unfortunately, Ray cannot ride it without earning a special amulet first. So it’s here when Ray attempts to earn money in order to buy the amulet until he comes across a fellow Master named Hugo and his friend Cyco and they all get a quest from a woman, who asks them to save her brother from a child-kidnapping gang.

Upon accepting the quest, Hugo reveals his weapon, which is a giant robot called Magingear, that he uses as a means of travel to take Ray to the gang’s fortress, but not before telling Ray that Masters of Maiden-type Embryos, like Ray, do not consider the titular “Infinite Dendrogram” to be a game, but as genuine as real life itself.

As Hugo and Cyco proceed to attack the fortress head-on, Ray and Nemesis infiltrate the fortress and discover some horrifying news about their mission, while Hugo is attacked by a giant boss guarding the fortress, forcing him to reveal Cyco, whose real name is Cocytus, as his Embryo and merge her with his Magingear Robot. Hugo destroys the boss while Ray reaches the fortress’ lowest dungeon and manages to find a child as the sole survivor, but the episode ends on a creepy note when the Child is more than what they seem…

Our Take

With the twist of what happened to those kids, that shit got dark really fast! Also, Looks like Nemesis made a new rival. That Cyco girl in terms of personality comes across as brutally honest but I’m sure it was to establish how different she is compared to Nemesis. In regards to Ray’s new item, it seems this show follows some of the standard mechanics of how RPG’s work in terms of how and where to use an item, as they need to meet some very specific requirements.

Overall, I have any minor complaints, It’s that Unless a particular series itself is themed around it, I really dislike seeing is Robots and high-tech guns shoved into a fantasy world setting. They feel just about as out of place as Demiurge’s pinstripe outfit from “Overlord”. And hopefully, in the next episode, we can find out if Ray will accomplish his goal to ride this horse he earned and see how he’ll get himself out of this particular crisis.
