English Dub Review: Hensuki: Are You Willing to Fall in Love with a Pervert, as Long as She’s a Cutie? “Cinderella Took Off Her Swimwear?!”

Overview (Spoilers Below)

Keiki takes Mizuha, Sayuki, Koga, and Yuika to a water park. Once there, Keiki spends time individually with each girl, creating some cute moments with all four of them. Then, Koharu appears at the water park to let the gang know that she’s running a “Love Confession Contest” at the park. Sayuki tells Keiki that all four of them would compete and that whoever wins would get to give Keiki one command, no questions asked.

Sayuki gets in front of the crowd and scores 92 points with her passionate, anonymous confession about Keiki. Yuika scores a 95 with her fiery message to other girls who are after him. Nanjo gets a 98 with her best-friends-to-crush confession. Finally, Mizuha takes the stage and dedicates her confession to how much she loves her big brother and scores 120 points. Keiki finds himself hoping that her confession is just one of familial love.

After the contest, though, Keiki waits for Mizuha outside of the changing room. Before they reunite with their friends, Keiki tells Mizuha to forgive her — and then flips up her skirt, revealing that she is, indeed, Undierella. Keiki breaks down how Koharu and Shoma helped him figure it out with photographic, time-stamped evidence of her presence after school on that fateful day. Mizuha confesses her identity as Undierella, and tells Keiki she’s in love with him.

She kisses him, and also reveals another twist; she and Keiki are only five months apart, and therefore, not actually related.

Our Take

We trusted you, Hensuki: Are You Willing to Fall in Love with a Pervert, as Long as She’s a Cutie? — we really trusted you.

We shouldn’t have trusted you, though. We didn’t trust you at the start. With a name like Hensuki: Are You Willing to Fall in Love with a Pervert, as Long as She’s a Cutie? — there was simply no way we would have a good relationship. But you were funny and self-aware, and we thought you were satirical, so we tried to make things work. For a time, they did. There were moments where — because of how good the dub was — we overlooked your aesthetic problems in favor of thinking that you might have been an intelligent parody.

But we were wrong. So wrong.

We were fools for thinking this would end any other way, Hensuki: Are You Willing to Fall in Love with a Pervert, as Long as She’s a Cutie? — we truly were. Of course, the sister is Undierella. Of course, this has been one big incest ploy the entire time. We were distracted by the modern references to normies and other memes to see you for what you truly were: an excuse to make a dumb anime about kinky girls for fetish fuel.

Aside from the nastiness factor, here’s a gaping plot hole: how on earth does a character not question that their sibling is 5 months apart from them for their whole life? The only thing that could save this show now is if they amp up the comedy factor next episode. It can only save itself through parody, but we’re done hoping.

Hensuki, it’s over between us. Pack your things and hit the road. We’ll see you in the finale — and, possibly, in small claims court.
