English Dub Review: Hensuki: Are You Willing to Fall in Love with a Pervert, as Long as She’s a Cutie? “Cinderella is Shy?!”

Overview (Spoilers Below)

Keiki wakes up from a nightmare he had about recent events, where Koga masochistically shoved her panties into his mouth. He tries to avoid her, but winds up finding her bra as a gift to him in his locker. He tries to sit her down to speak with her about it, but she still aims to enslave him in a “storybook” way.

When he looks in his locker again, he finds a photo made of him and Sayuki, made to look promiscuous. It’s left alongside a note from Sayuki herself, demanding that he come to the club room (with the threat that she’d leak the photo online, otherwise.) When he arrives, he finds her there in a maid outfit. He’s forced to reach into her cleavage to find the key to unlocking the handcuffs she’d put around herself. He has a mental breakdown about there being “no love” in these acts and runs away.

The next day, Sayuki texts him to come to the club room again, but he is intercepted by Koga, who ties him up in a classroom. She attempts to force him to swear that he’d be hers forever, physically and mentally. She threatens to steal his first kiss, but as she is about to force herself on him, Sayuki finds them. They argue about who Keiki belongs to, when Nanjo bursts in and saves him.

She runs away with him, confessing that she doesn’t like seeing him with other girls.

Our Take

Even though the first episode had Keiki framed as a fedora dude, the tables have really turned. He’s starting to be a lot more sympathetic, considering the number of girls who are downright sexually harassing him every day. In fact — considering the coercion factor, it’s pretty much just sexual assault at this point (and we’re not even five episodes in!)

Where there was once a soft spot formed for Koga last episode (considering the initial wholesomeness of their date, and how it shed some light on her character), it has pretty much vanished with what she did to Keiki this episode. Whether it’s a first kiss or a first time, the physical severity doesn’t matter — assault is assault. Just because Koga sounds like a child doesn’t mean she isn’t aware of her actions. The same goes for Sayuki — the guy wants to love, not titties (and don’t we all?)

The pacing of this episode felt kinda weird. It seemed like all it wanted to do was set up the fact that Koga and Sayuki don’t like each other, and add in more kinky scenes. It felt like it should have been way more focused on Nanjo, who we haven’t seen a lot of, yet. She’s not an interesting character so far, because she reads like the typical Tsundere (a more distant one, at that.) Something in this pacing seems like she’s going to need a lot more character attention to connect with anyone watching.

Even though the content is typical anime bullshit, the written dialogue can be pretty good. Keiki’s voice actor definitely seems to be having a lot of fun, at least. The way eyes are drawn is pretty nice, too? Plus, the opening song is pretty good. Those are really the only compliments that can be squeezed out of this hell-scape of a show so far, though.
