English Dub Review: Star Blazers: Space Battleship Yamato 2202 “Zworder, the Devil’s Alternative”

This week’s episode sees Kodai given an ultimatum that he can’t work his way around, but when Yuki hears about it she attempts to make the decision for him. Fortunately, Kodai is able to save the damsel in distress before anything serious happens and the two decide to elope. The Yamato, fresh from a battle with Gamilan rebels, swoops in to make the save and now we continue on our journey.

Our Take

The build-up to what was a rather cliched ending was fun, but this week’s episode is trying to give his dramatic conclusions to arcs that are poorly built and placed upon a facade of any sort of a premise in which this entire season is displaying at this juncture. We still have no real clue as to why the hell we’re in space, to begin with, other than the fact that everyone heard a voice in their heads and now we’re following it. But, there hasn’t been a life or death reason as to why this team decided to pack up and take on this mission and as a result, there isn’t that much of a vested interest in seeing this thing through other than to finish it.
